 Guest blogging, sometimes known as guest posting, is the process of writing content for a different website in return for a free resource or credit. 

Generally, guest bloggers post for the same blogs in their own industry to: Attract back traffic to their own site. It might sound counterproductive to simply spend your time posting articles for other blogs (which you might even consider as competitors too) when you can be better utilized doing something constructive for your own business...

So, what is a guest blogging strategy? The process varies from publisher to publisher, but there are eight steps that generally hold true for most publishers. First, the publisher (the person with the website) asks for an article or other piece of content. Next, the author applies for the job. 

The author then goes through the process of either getting an acceptance (sometimes via e-mail) or rejection.

Next, the writer begins to select a target site and key in a keyword or topic for the content. This topic should be relevant to the target site and audience. Then, it's time for the writing. 

The author must follow the rules laid out by the publisher and/or by the guest blog owner; which means being thorough and being careful about spelling mistakes. 

It's best to hire a good keyword research software package to help with this process, but many bloggers do the job themselves with little or no help.

Third, once an author has written their piece, they submit it to the new website and then wait. Sometimes the publisher will let them revise the article (if it's been approved), but most of the time they want the original article back so that the publisher can rewrite it (if it hasn't been approved). 

So the process continues. After approval and revisions, the author is usually offered a "grant" by the new website and is on their way to creating a new client.
